Today was very uneventful.
We started off our day by sleeping in. It was very easy to do with the calming sound of rain outside the windows. The thermal-lined curtains in all the rooms, which only allows a very small amount of light in, helped as well. I had planned on putting the first of two coats of protective polyurethane on my t.v. cabinet, but the rain put a big damper on that. There is rain in the forecast for the next few days, so I'm not sure when I'll be able to finish this thing. Gosh...I'm so close to getting it all completed, I can taste it. I'm loving this rain because it has dropped the temperature drastically! According to www.weather.com, our high was 76 degrees Fahrenheit!!!! That is seriously unheard of for a July in Texas.
Anyways....I had another person coming to pick up an item I sold on the treasure exchange, so Robert and I headed out to the garage to get it ready. We started cleaning up the garage a little bit when Melinda came outside. She wanted to know what she could prepare for lunch and we all agreed on spaghetti. The pick up time was changed, so Robert left for the gym to exercise while I stayed with the girls to finish the garage while they finished lunch. By the time he was done, lunch was on the table and we were settled in for another movie selection. We started Footloose, the original one, but I think the dialogue was a little difficult for Melinda to follow. Since the main characters are 'teenagers', they spoke very quickly and the closed captioning was having trouble keeping up with them. She had planned to visit with her mom after lunch, so we turned off the movie and relaxed for a few minutes before the next big task.
My girls have been together in Abigail's room since before Melinda arrived this summer. They really enjoy sharing a room, mainly because they get to sleep on the bunk beds. Abigail primarily stays on the top bunk, but sometimes they'll switch places. Last week, they constructed an enormous fort with several blankets and the twin mattress from the bottom bunk. The dogs wouldn't even go in there. Well, when momma finally braved it, the rose colored glasses came off. Today began a major cleaning out of their room which took most of the afternoon.
Robert left to meet another buyer from the treasure exchange and stopped by Wal-Mart on his way home to get a few things for dinner and the week. When he arrived at home, he and Melinda started our delicious dinner, hot dogs and chili, while the girls set the table and I finished up the last bit of their room. After dinner, the girls watched a little t.v. before getting ready for bed. I had them in bed early so that they aren't too tired for basketball camp in the morning. Melinda and I have big plans for the morning time while they are at camp....a Glee marathon in memory of the recently deceased Cory Monteith. I think we can get in at least two or three before I have to go back to pick them up.
Good night all, and thank you so much for keeping up with our wild and crazy summer. I know this past week has been pretty lame, but things should start picking up over the next three weeks. The outings are always enjoyable, but my favorite moments will always be spent just sitting and talking. Melinda has improved her English so much over the past 35 days! She has even finished a few children's books in English and has started reading a young adult book! I am so very proud of her and her determination to improve her English.
