Day 20

Saturday, June 29, 2013

I have been looking forward to today for a long time!  Today is the Roger Creager concert!!!

The morning started with us each going our own direction.  I had a continuing education class to attend in Terrell about recycling and vermicomposting with the students in school. I have always wanted to learn more about vermicomposting and was super excited to bring home a small box of worms all ready to start eating my garbage!  I like this method of composting because it can be kept inside.  The process can be quicker depending on how many worms you have.  My dad has a composting pile at his house, so we take most of our scraps to him.  In a typical week, we will have at least one full box of recycling.  I am a big advocate of recycling and hope that I can help some of the other teachers to start a recylcing program at school next year.
An upclose and personal look at my worms.
Robert and Abigail headed to Rockwall for a soccer game.  She played very well and I was sad to miss the game.  She had two assists and made a few really good defensive stops.

Melinda and Ally stayed home while we were gone.  They tidied up the house and hung out together.  They are really enjoying their time together and I know that Ally is learning a lot from Melinda.

Once everyone was home, we had lunch and rested before we started getting ready for church and the concert.  We went to church, went to eat dinner at Wendy's, and then came home to get changed for the concert.  We were all very excited about the concert.  The city of Forney had planned a wonderful celebration for everyone to enjoy.  They had food, games, and fireworks beginning at 6:00 p.m.  The Roger Creager concert began shortly after.  The opening band started and played a mixture of various types of music.  They were good and played crowd favorites that everyone knows the words to and can sing along.
Melinda's Frosty Parfait...yum!

At 8:15, we lined up next to the stage to go backstage and meet Roger Creager.  I had won two backstage passes earlier in the week, so Robert and I were going to meet him.  We had a chance to visit with the Mayor prior to the concert and he was able to get us another pass to go backstage so that Melinda could meet Roger, too.  She was so excited!  I was so happy that she was able to go with us.  They took us behind the stage to an area with tables and chairs to sit and wait.  One of his people told us that we could take a picture with him and have him sign something for us.  I had brought a 12th Man Towel for him to sign since he is a Texas A&M University graduate.  Melinda had him sign her ticket stub so that she had the date, time, and signature all in one place.  Roger was very nice and was excited to see someone from Hungary at his concert.  Once we were finished meeting Roger, we headed back to where my dad and the girls were sitting.  The fireworks began around 9:15 and lasted almost 30 minutes!  It was so nice to share this Fourth of July celebration with Melinda.  They played traditional Fourth of July type songs while the fireworks were being launched.  Everyone cheered when the show was completed and Roger Creager came on stage just a few minutes later.  He was amazing!  There were people dancing and singing along to his music.

We left the concert around 10:45 p.m. because Ally and Abby were getting tired.  By the time we got home, they were both ready for bed.  The day was filled with lots of fun and we were all exhausted and ready for bed.
