Day 28

Sunday, July 7, 2013

Today started off slowly since we were out so late the night before.  Ally and Abby spent the night with my mom and dad, so it was just us and Melinda.  We sat and had breakfast and visited before the little girls came back to the house.  I started cleaning up the house while Robert headed outside to work on the yard.

We had made plans to take Melinda into Mesquite to look for roller skates.  I had asked my wonderful Facebook friends where I might find some in stock to try on and every mentioned a store called Academy.  We headed into Mesquite and found a pair for Melinda to try on.  She and Robert had talked about the skates during lunch and she had come to the conclusion that it may not be beneficial to buy the skates here since it would cost so much to have them shipped home.  She tried them on anyways, and skated through the store for a little bit.  Melinda hadn't seen skates with the 'stopper' on the front before.  She said that roller skates in Hungary had the 'stopper' in the back.  We showed her in line skates that had the 'stopper' in the back, but this was not the same thing she was used to.  I was just glad that she had the chance to try them on and skate around for a bit.

Once we left the store, we headed home to finish putting up the curtains in our bedroom.  Now, we began this project before Melinda got here....I KNOW!  It's been THAT long!  Melinda helped me iron the curtains while I started putting up the curtain rods.  She really helped me get this project completed and I am so glad that she was here to help.  We finished and got the room put back together, but only after I started rearranging things.  I like to change things around every so often and getting the curtains hung spurred me into moving things around.  This inspired my new mission for the week:  to find a few new pieces to go in our bedroom.  A t.v. stand, night stand for Robert, and POSSIBLY a small sofa to create the bedroom suite I've always wanted.  Basically, this means we'll be visiting the local thrift stores and hitting garage sales next weekend.  Love it!

Once the girls were in bed, we once again sat up and visited in the dining room.  Melinda is still determined to read a book in English, so we decided to pay a visit to the local library in the morning.  I was hoping that with a larger selection of books to borrow and not buy, we could find her something that she would be able to read.  She has been working through a few of Abigail's books, but is still struggling with a few of the words.  I know that this is very frustrating for her and we're trying to be keep her motivated.  We'll continue plugging away at it and hopefully get it all figured out in the end.
