Today marks a milestone in our summer. Melinda has been here for one month....it's very exciting and sad all at the same time. We have all had such a wonderful time getting to know her and experience so many wonderful things with her, but it just reminds me that we only have two more months with her. Oh, well...we've just got to continue soaking up all the time we have and not think about August 26 until it gets here.
We started the day off bright and early. I had planned to go to the local home improvement store before taking Melinda to her dentist appointment in order to get the supplies I needed to begin my furniture project. I was torn between two different color pallets, so it took me a little while to make a final decision. Once I finally made up my mind, we got all of the paint, brushes, and other things and made our way to the dentists office.
Melinda was having a cavity filled at a local dentists office. She was a little nervous about the process because she is not fond of needles. Actually, she hates needles. I can't say I blame her. I typically have to have two to three doses of medication in order to have a cavity filled. The dental hygienist assured her that he was really good at giving the local anesthetic and that lots of their patients tell them that it didn't even hurt. I was really hoping that this would be the case for Melinda. The dentist came into the room and was joking with Melinda to help ease her nerves. I told him not to worry, that the fate of American dentistry was on his shoulders. He laughed and said, "Oh, well if that's all, then let's go." lol He worked very quickly and Melinda was out within 30 minutes. She came out and looked at herself in the mirror in the van. She kept saying that she felt numb and how silly it felt. She said that the dentist was very nice and friendly, which made me feel good.
We went through Dairy Queen for lunch so that Melinda could get a milk shake. Mom came over to eat with us and afterwards I headed out to the garage to begin working on my project. Ally helped me take all of the hardware off and place the screws into baggies. I made sure to take pictures of how it was all assembled so that it will hopefully be easy to put it all back together.

My cabinet all stripped down and ready to be sanded. |
The next step was to sand the entire piece so that we could give it the aged looked I was going for. Also, this helps the paint adhere to the wood better. Robert was working on the back piece that will enclose the cabinet part where a tube t.v. would have normally sat.
Once it was all sanded and dusted, we began applying the primer. Ally and Melinda were helping and it made the process go much quicker. I was able to finish in just an hour or two instead of having to leave some for tomorrow. Now, when I get up tomorrow, I can start painting the base coat....can't wait!
