Day 26

Friday, July 5, 2013

Robert and I woke up and got ready for our workout with the trainer.  The girls stayed behind and relaxed while we were gone.  Once we were back, we started cleaning up before lunch.  We had plans to go to the Mesquite Rodeo tonight, so we each took time to get ourselves ready for the rodeo.  I saw that a local boutique was having a sale, so once we were all ready, I loaded up the girls and went to see what sort of deals we could find.

I found two really cute dresses and a top, plus a few new pieces of jewelry.  This is one of my favorite shops in town and I love catching their sales.  I wore one of the dresses to the rodeo and saved the other for an outing we had planned for Saturday night.  Melinda helped me put together each of the outfits while at the shop, which was really nice.

Once we got home, we had dinner before heading out to the rodeo.  I was so excited to take Melinda to the rodeo.  She said that they do not have rodeos in Hungary, so this was going to be her first experience.  The Mesquite rodeo is a very well known rodeo and is even televised.  It is an indoor rodeo that is air conditioned, which makes it very nice.  Melinda was not expecting that.  She was thinking it would be outside like she has seen on t.v. and movies.  Melinda was only expecting to see bull riding and was not familiar with several of the other events that we saw.  She rides horses back home, so she is a horse lover and truly enjoyed seeing all of the different animals.

During intermission, we walked around below the stands to stretch our legs.  When we made it to one of the corners of the arena, we came across the mechanical bull.  We stood and watched as several different people of all ages took their chances on the steel beast before being flung onto the inflatable mat below them.  Abigail decided that she wanted to give it a try.  The man operating the machine was very nice to the smaller children who wanted to ride and would move the bull slower and would offer them a second chance if they fell off too soon.  Abigail didn't do too badly.  She fell off after about 15-20 seconds, and when offered a second ride, quickly said, "Nope, I'm done."

After her ride, we stopped at the concession stand to get some snacks before heading back into the stands.  Just as we were sitting down, the announcer came over the speaker talking about four young men.  They are the 'next big thing' when it comes to bull riding.  One of these young men happens to live in Forney and attends the elementary school that I work at.  I was so happy to get to see him ride and even more happy to see him win!  Melinda was amazed at how young they were and how well they rode.

We stayed until the very end of the rodeo, which ended up being about a three hour event.  We all couldn't believe that three hours had gone by!  We had such a good time and may try to go back again before the summer is over.
