We're in double digits, people!!!! Man, time sure has flown by. Melinda has only been in the states for a little over a week, yet it seems like she's been part of the family from the get go.
Today started off pretty relaxing. Everyone took their time getting up and ready for the day. I took care of some much needed house cleaning while Melinda Skyped with her aunt and uncle. She was getting the recipe for another Hungarian treat, kakaos csiga, which means 'chocolate snail'. Here is a picture of it.

Looks similar to a cinnamon roll, just with chocolate instead of cinammon. Um....YES, PLEASE!!!!! The girls woke up raving about the pancakes from yesterday. I can only imagine how much they'll love these.
We had a quick lunch before leaving the house. I needed to get my ring fixed, so off to the mall we went. I hadn't been to our local mall in a really long time...it was nice, different, but nice. The girls wanted Melinda to try the cookies from The Great American Cookie Company. Would you believe that they do not have chocolate chip cookies in Hungary?!?!? Oh, my...how my childhood would have been different. To think of the hundreds of glasses of milk I enjoyed dunking my Chips Ahoy cookies into....ah, the memories! She is eagerly awaiting the day when I show her how to make chocolate chip cookies. Her aunt even wants her to bring back a bag of Nestle Tollhouse (said in my best Phoebe Buffay voice) for her so that she can make them once she gets home. Once again, one of the many pleasures that we Americans are able to enjoy.
We took our cookies and hit the local Sonic to get Melinda a drink. After the Great Slurpee Search of Day 7, getting a slush was no big deal. We happened to be at the Sonic right across the street from my high school (Poteet Pirates, what's up?!), so I pointed it out to Melinda. She said it was much bigger than her school in Hungary. She got a blackberry slush and said it was delicious.
We high-tailed it back to Forney just in time for the girls' piano lessons with Miss Kerri. They decided that their next duet will be The Pink Panther. Yup...I'll be listening to that for a LONG TIME.
When we got home, Melinda asked if they could all go outside and jump on the trampoline. The girls were so excited to take her to their favorite place. They like to jump on the trampoline, but they also will just sit or lay on it and talk to each other. Who knows what they are discussing out there, but at least they're not fighting with each other. They love to take Nala, our female lab, with them. She is such a gentle girl, letting them lay on her, pet her, and of course talk to her. She will stand in the center and watch as they jump around her. Simba, our male lab, is a whole other story. He is not allowed outside with them during girl time. He plays really rough and will not let them enjoy their time outside. I guess that's a boy thing. It was so sad to see him watching them through the window. Poor thing...no body wanted to play with him! Oh, well....I gave him and Maggie, our lab mix, a special treat since they were not allowed play time with the rest of the gang.

I decided to make spaghetti for dinner and the girls wanted to show Melinda one of our favorite family shows, Family Ties. We all think that Alex P. Keaton and Robert Portillo, Jr. have a lot in common. Tonight, the girls laughed and laughed at Alex because he was crying at the economics paper that he was writing with his college professor. I'm not sure how much Melinda understood, but she did think that it was funny.
After dinner, we all retreated to our respective spots: Melinda at the table on her laptop, the girls in the living room watching t.v. and doing their nails, and me at the computer, checking Facebook, emails, and of course Candy Crush. Oh, and writing my blog, of course!
Kedves Sara!
